Is this camp fully online?
Yes. SciComm Summer Camp is a fully virtual, live summer camp for students in grades 6–12.
All sessions take place online in small, interactive groups. Students participate in:
Live podcasting and storytelling workshops
Public speaking practice sessions
Collaborative group activities
Feedback sessions on final media projects
This format allows students from anywhere to access structured media training and communication skills development without traveling.

Does my student need prior podcasting experience?
No prior experience is required. SciComm Summer Camp is designed for beginners and emerging communicators who want structured guidance in media training, storytelling, and content creation.
If students are interested in learning about podcasting before camp starts, we suggest our free Spring Break Studio virtual learning opportunity.
How many students are in each session?
Each SciComm Summer Camp session is intentionally capped at 12 students maximum to ensure a focused, interactive learning environment.
Keeping enrollment small allows for:

Unlike large online courses, this virtual summer camp prioritizes real-time interaction and individual attention, helping middle and high school students build confidence in storytelling and communication.
What technology is required?
To participate in this online media training camp, students will need:
A laptop or desktop computer (tablets are not recommended)
A microphone and headphones, or wired earbuds with a built-in mic
A stable internet connection
Access to Zoom
Because this camp focuses on podcasting, storytelling, and public speaking skills, clear audio quality is important for participation and feedback. No advanced editing software or prior media experience is required.
