About SciComm Summer Camp

SciComm Summer Camp is designed for students who love science and want to get better at sharing it. Whether you're curious about podcasting, storytelling, or public speaking, this camp gives you the tools to bring your ideas to life.

Led by a science communication expert, the camp blends live instruction with hands-on projects. By the end of the program, students will create and present original media—podcasts, videos, or presentations—that showcase their unique voice.

How Camp Works

Each week builds toward a final project - a podcast episode, video, or presentation - that lets students apply what they’ve learned.

Here’s how the camp unfolds:

  • Week 1: Storytelling fundamentals, writing for audio, and finding your science story. Students choose their topic and begin shaping their narrative.

  • Week 2: Recording techniques, editing with professional tools like Descript, and interviewing skills. Students produce their first drafts and get peer feedback.

  • Week 3: Final editing, presentation coaching, and our live student showcase. Students present their polished projects to a live audience of family, peers, and guest experts.

By the end of camp, students will have a finished, portfolio-ready project they can share with family, friends, college admissions, and future audiences.

Learn from the Experts

In addition to interactive learning sessions, SciComm Summer Camp brings in guest speakers (science communicators, media creators, and industry professionals) who share their insights and offer feedback on student projects.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend live Q&A sessions with guest experts

  • Watch exclusive interviews on science storytelling and media careers

  • Receive feedback on their final projects from working professionals

This year’s lineup will be announced soon. Stay tuned!
